How much caffeine is in Celsius?

Checked October 7, 2026 against Celsius Holdings product facts · Half-life model: Institute of Medicine, FDA · Not medical advice

Short answer

200 mg

in a 12 fl oz can of Celsius

15 h

until under 25 mg is left

About two cups of brewed coffee in a small can. Half of it is still in you five hours later: a 3 pm Celsius leaves about 68 mg at 10:45 pm, more than a can of Mountain Dew.

01Caffeine in every Celsius flavor

Every caffeinated Celsius on the maker's labels is 200 mg per serving: the sparkling 12 fl oz cans, the non-carbonated tea flavors such as Peach Mango Green Tea, the Fizz-Free cans and the On-the-Go powder sticks. The exception is Celsius Essentials, 270 mg in a 16 fl oz can, whose label adds "do not exceed one serving per day".

The caffeine comes from several places at once. Celsius lists caffeine, guarana seed extract and green tea extract in its blend, and says the guarana seeds it uses contain over twice the caffeine of the average coffee bean. The label total already includes all of them. The Celsius Hydration powders have no caffeine. Celsius Heat (300 mg) is no longer listed by the maker; the figure is from Caffeine Informer.

mg per can or bottle as printed on the maker's product facts, checked October 7, 2026. "Cups of coffee" = an 8 fl oz cup of brewed coffee at 96 mg (Mayo Clinic). Rows marked "no longer listed" come from Caffeine Informer and are kept because people still search for them.

02Celsius by can and bottle size

There are only two can sizes to keep track of: the 12 fl oz can at 200 mg and the 16 fl oz Essentials can at 270 mg. A single 12 fl oz can is half of the FDA's daily figure; one Essentials can is about two thirds of it.

400 mg a day is the FDA's figure for healthy adults, not a target. Calculated rows: maker mg ÷ fl oz × size.

03When should your last Celsius be?

At bedtime you would still have:

remaining = dose × 0.5^(hours ÷ 5). Half-life varies 1.5–9.5 h between people. How we calculate

Caffeine left after one 12 fl oz Celsius (200 mg)
0h2h4h6h8h10h12h20010050half gone at 5 h

Model: remaining = dose × 0.5^(hours ÷ 5). Half-life 5 h (Institute of Medicine 2001); shaded band = the FDA's 4–6 h.

The arithmetic is unforgiving at this dose. 200 mg takes three half-lives, 15 hours, to fall under 25 mg, so for a 10:45 pm bedtime that line would mean finishing the can by about 7:45 am. A morning can is the sleep-friendly one; the six-hour line from the 2013 trial (4:45 pm for a 10:45 pm bed) is the latest point most guidance would accept.

Brand rows: maker product facts, checked October 7, 2026. Other drinks: typical values from Mayo Clinic and USDA (data/caffeine.json). mg per serving, and servings differ in size.

Celsius has more caffeine than any soda on this site and more than a 16 fl oz Monster (160 mg). Ounce for ounce it is stronger than brewed coffee: about 16.7 mg per fl oz against roughly 12.

06Is 200 mg of caffeine a lot?

It is half of the 400 mg a day the FDA cites for healthy adults, which makes one Celsius a big single dose rather than a small one. Two cans reach the full daily figure. Celsius itself says the drink is not recommended for people sensitive to caffeine, anyone under 18, or women who are pregnant or nursing.

Most of the 400 mg guidance is about the day's total; sleep depends on the hour. Because each can starts at 200 mg, the half left five hours later (100 mg) is still more than a whole can of Mountain Dew.

Who should ask first

Pregnancy, some heart conditions and some medicines change how much caffeine is sensible and how long it lasts. Ask a clinician rather than a calculator.

Questions people ask

How many cups of coffee is equal to a Celsius?
About two. A 12 fl oz Celsius has 200 mg of caffeine; an 8 fl oz cup of brewed coffee has about 96 mg (Mayo Clinic), so one can is roughly 2.1 cups.
Is 200 mg of caffeine a lot?
It is half of the 400 mg a day the FDA cites for healthy adults, so yes for one drink. Celsius says its drinks are not recommended for people sensitive to caffeine, under 18, or pregnant or nursing.
Is Celsius stronger than coffee?
Per can, yes: 200 mg against about 96 mg in an 8 fl oz cup of brewed coffee. Per fluid ounce it is also stronger, about 16.7 mg against 12. A 12 fl oz cold brew (about 155 mg) is the closest coffee.
