Fall Asleep: our sleep sounds app for iPhone
Made by the DozeClock team · Checked against version 2.0 on October 10, 2026 · iPhone and iPad, iOS 16+
Short answer
30 sounds
Five rooms of recorded nature sounds (rain, beach, forest, fire, underwater), six per room, each with its own volume, and a sleep timer that fades the sound out. Free to start; Plus opens the rest.
We make this app. This is the maker's description, not a review: every feature below was checked against the app itself and its App Store listing, and the limits of the free version are spelled out. Nobody else is ranked here.
Five rooms, six sounds each
Pick a room and raise or lower each sound on its own slider. The first three sounds of a room start at a gentle mix; the other three start silent until you bring them in. You mix inside one room at a time: rain with thunder and crickets, not rain with waves.
Photos are real night scenes from Unsplash, standing in for the rooms; the app draws its own scenes. Sound list from the app's catalogue, version 2.0. Sounds in grey need Plus or the room purchase; the free version lets you hear each for 10 seconds.

Prices (US, October 2026): Plus Yearly $19.99 a year with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers · Plus Lifetime $39.99 once · or one room (Forest, Fire or Underwater) for $4.99 once, which gives that room all six sounds and play with the screen locked, and removes ad breaks across the app. Apple shows the price for your country before you pay; cancel Plus any time in iOS Settings (how).
The timer, and why it fades
The timer stops the sound after you fall asleep, with a 30-second, 1-minute or 2-minute fade so the silence does not wake you. Most healthy adults fall asleep in 10 to 20 minutes, so the free 15-minute timer can end a little early on a slow night; our sleep-timer guide suggests 30 to 45 minutes, which is a Plus setting. If you are still awake when it ends, see what to do after 20 minutes.
Is it a white noise app?
Honestly, no. People search for a "white noise app" when they want something steady to cover a snoring partner, traffic or a neighbour's TV. Fall Asleep covers that with recorded rain, surf, wind and fire, which are broadband sounds and mask in a similar way, but it has no pure white, pink or brown noise generator. The evidence for any of it is modest: one small lab study found broadband sound shortened the time to fall asleep, and a 2021 systematic review rated the research on noise as a sleep aid low in quality (sources below). If that is what you want, our free browser player does it with no download: white noise, pink noise or brown noise.
What it does not do
- No sleep tracking. It does not record, measure or score your sleep, and it never uses the microphone.
- No alarm. Use your phone's clock for that; our bedtime calculator tells you when to set it.
- No account, no streaming. All 30 sounds ship inside the app (about 38 MB), so they play without internet.
- Not a treatment. It is a sound player. If poor sleep lasts for weeks, talk to a clinician.
- No Android version at the moment.
Questions people ask
- Is Fall Asleep free?
- Yes, free to download with ads. Free includes the Rain and Beach rooms (3 sounds each) and a 15-minute timer. Plus Yearly ($19.99 a year, 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers) or Plus Lifetime ($39.99 once) opens everything; a single room is $4.99 once. US prices in October 2026; the App Store shows your local price before you pay.
- Is it a white noise app?
- Not strictly. It has no pure white, pink or brown noise: its sounds are recorded nature (rain, waves, wind, fire, water). Steady rain and surf do a similar masking job, but if you want true noise colours, use the free player on our sleep sounds pages.
- Does it work without internet?
- Yes for the sounds: all 30 are stored inside the app (about 38 MB), nothing is streamed. Ads, prices and purchases need a connection.
- Does it keep playing when my phone is locked?
- With Plus or Lifetime, yes, every room. A single-room purchase plays that room with the screen locked. In the free version the sound stops when you leave the app or lock the phone.
- Does it track my sleep or use the microphone?
- No. There is no sleep tracking, no microphone, no alarm and no account. It plays sounds and stops them on a timer. Details in the privacy policy.
- Which devices does it run on?
- iPhone and iPad with iOS 16 or later. There is no Android version.
- I bought rooms in the old Curing Insomnia app. Do I keep them?
- Yes. Fall Asleep is the same app, renamed. Earlier purchases carry over, and earlier buyers also keep every timer length, play when locked and all 6 sounds in every room. Use Restore Purchases in Settings.
